Privacy
Local first.
GradeLine is designed around a simple idea: student work should not require another product account.
No account
GradeLine does not need a cloud login to be useful.
No telemetry
Core app usage is not built around tracking.
Local data
Classes, rubrics, and grades live on the Mac.
Your key
Optional AI assist uses a personal or district API key.
Overview
GradeLine is a local-first Mac app. Core grading data stays on your device. There are no GradeLine accounts and no telemetry.
Optional connected AI grading uses the provider, model, and API key you configure. After you explicitly approve sending student work to that provider, grading sends extracted text and assignment criteria. It does not upload source documents or images. Provider terms and charges apply. API keys are stored in macOS Keychain and can be removed in Settings.
Data Handling
- No GradeLine accounts.
- No telemetry.
- Core app features run locally and work offline.
- Connected AI grading requires your chosen provider configuration and explicit data approval.
- Built-in Apple Vision OCR runs locally. Additional local OCR models require a compatible runtime and model files; there is no automatic cloud fallback.
- Backups and exports are under your control. Classroom bundles contain records; full backups preserve the included document assets.
